Introduction
Welcome to Car.UG ("Car.UG", "we", "us", or "our"). Car.UG is a Uganda-focused marketplace and information service covering used car sales, new and Japan-used car imports, car rentals, and a URA vehicle import tax calculator. By accessing or using our website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Service Description
Car.UG provides:
- A directory and listing platform for used cars, new cars, and Japan-used car imports for sale in Uganda
- A directory and listing platform for car rental companies and self-drive/chauffeur hire in Uganda
- Vendor and dealer profiles, including verification badges, ratings, and customer reviews
- A calculation tool to estimate URA import duties and taxes for used vehicles
- Tools to generate tax and sale invoice documents based on information you or a vendor provide
Tax calculations are estimates for reference only. The final amount assessed by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) may differ from our calculations, and we are not affiliated with URA. Always verify figures with URA or a licensed customs agent before relying on them financially.
Marketplace Role & Buyer/Seller Relationship
Car.UG is a listing platform, not a party to any sale, rental, or import transaction. We do not own, inspect, sell, rent, broker, or take possession of any vehicle listed on the site. All listings are created by vendors, dealers, rental companies, or private sellers ("Vendors"), and all negotiation, payment, vehicle inspection, and exchange of money happens directly between you and the Vendor, off-platform.
We do not:
- Charge buyers or renters a booking fee or commission on a sale or rental
- Process, hold, or guarantee payments made between buyers/renters and Vendors
- Guarantee the accuracy of a Vendor's listing, pricing, mileage, condition, import history, or availability
- Guarantee that any vehicle, dealer, or rental company is licensed, insured, or fit for purpose
Before paying any Vendor or releasing funds, independently verify the logbook/chassis number, import and URA tax records, vehicle condition, and (for rentals) the insurance cover, deposit terms, and fuel policy. Never send money to a person or account you have not independently verified.
Vendor & Dealer Accounts
Vendors may register a dealer or rental company profile and publish car listings subject to a subscription plan that determines the number of active listings and whether featured placement is available. Vendors are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of the listings, pricing, photos, and contact details they publish.
We reserve the right to verify, suspend, edit, unpublish, or remove any vendor account or listing at our discretion, including for inaccurate, fraudulent, duplicate, or unlawful content, or for non-payment of subscription fees. Subscription fees paid for listing plans are non-refundable except where required by law.
User Accounts
You may create an account using an email/password or by signing in with Google. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
Reviews & User Content
Reviews and ratings must reflect a genuine experience with the Vendor being reviewed. We may moderate, refuse to publish, or remove reviews and other user-submitted content that is fraudulent, defamatory, abusive, or otherwise violates these terms. By submitting a review or listing content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on the platform.
User Obligations
By using our service, you agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information when using the calculator, creating listings, or submitting reviews
- Use the service for lawful purposes only
- Not attempt to manipulate or bypass any security or verification features
- Not use automated systems or bots to scrape or access the service
- Not post fraudulent listings, fake reviews, or misrepresent a vehicle, dealership, or rental company
- Not redistribute, sell, or commercialize our calculations, listing data, or content without permission
Disclaimer of Warranties
Our service, including all listings, vendor information, reviews, and tax calculations, is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, legality, or timeliness of any listing, vendor claim, or calculation.
We are not affiliated with the Uganda Revenue Authority, and our calculator is not an official URA tool. We do not warrant that any Vendor is licensed, bonded, insured, or authorized to sell, import, or rent vehicles.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Car.UG shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to losses arising from a vehicle purchase, sale, import, or rental transaction with a Vendor, inaccurate listing information, a fake or fraudulent listing, or reliance on a tax estimate.
Any dealings between you and a Vendor are solely between you and that Vendor. We recommend verifying all tax calculations with official URA sources and independently verifying any Vendor before making a payment or commitment.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Car.UG harmless from any claims, losses, or damages, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your listings, reviews, breach of these terms, or your dealings with another user or Vendor.
Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of our website, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, and calculation algorithms, are our exclusive property and are protected by intellectual property laws. Vendor-submitted listing content (photos, descriptions) remains the property of the Vendor, subject to the license granted to us to display it.
Service Modifications
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of our service, including listing categories or subscription plans, at any time without notice. We may also update these terms from time to time, and your continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of any changes.
Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Uganda. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of our service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Uganda.
