Toyota in Uganda

The majority of Toyotas in Uganda are Japan imports, sourced through bond dealers in Kireka, Ntinda, and Namanve. Japan imports are typically in excellent condition with low mileage. Locally used vehicles are cheaper upfront but may have higher mileage and unknown service history. Factor in URA import taxes (duty, VAT, infrastructure levy) when comparing import prices.

Always inspect before buying. Key checks: verify the chassis number against the URA system, inspect for accident damage (especially frame alignment), check the logbook and URA clearance documents, test the engine cold and warm, and confirm service records. For Japan imports, request the auction sheet — a grade of 4 or above indicates excellent condition.

Toyota has one of the deepest spare-parts networks in Uganda. Genuine and aftermarket parts are widely available at Kisekka Market in Kampala, bond dealers in Kireka, and upcountry towns. Service intervals are straightforward — most Toyota petrol engines use 5,000–10,000 km oil changes. Mechanics specialising in Toyota are found across the country.

Toyota holds its value better than most brands in Uganda. The Land Cruiser, Hilux, and Prado are especially strong — some models appreciate against the UGX as exchange rates shift. Practical models like the Fielder, Noah, and Probox retain value well due to consistent demand. Avoid rare trims and exotic colours if resale is a priority.
